Printed Visions: A Photobook Workshop for African Photographers
with Anne Nwakalor, Founding Editor No! Wahala Magazine, and Giulia Brivio, Chief Curator Artphilein

What is a photo-book and how to create a dummy photo-book or a zine?

We will delve into a brief history of the photo-book, providing context and background for our exploration.
We will travel into the publishing and zine world through various examples and case studies. This
introduction aims to provide an overview of the possibilities within publishing practices for photographers,
including a guide to festivals and awards.

Participants are invited to illustrate their projects and to work on the sequence and narratives of their
contents. The goal is to develop a final book or zine design for each project.
At the end candidates will present and discuss their work, receiving feedback and insights.

One outstanding project will be selected to receive a special award: the production of their fanzine in a
limited edition of 50 copies, produced and published by Artphilein Editions.

The workshop will host two special guests, the Overlapse publisher Tiffany Jones and the artist Ayesha
Kazim. They will share their experiences with photobooks and will join the workshop for an open discussion.
